How to choose the right pot.
When it comes to choosing the right pot for your houseplant there's a few simple questions you can ask yourself to make the decision a whole lot easier. Whether you need a large, striking pot for a green vignette or a petite vessel for a fireplace mantle, there's a design to suit.
*P.S Our website lists all of our pot and vessel dimensions so we've taken the guess work out of making a choice.
1. Measure your plant + space.
Measure your plant's nursery pot to determine which size planter will suit, plus measure the space where the planter will live. Will it sit on a table? Or on a shelf? How tall or short, slim or wide does it need to be? This step helps narrow down the options.
2. Does your pot need drainage?
Will you keep your plant in its plastic nursery pot? If yes, then you won't need a planter with drainage. Instead, choose a planter with a solid base and use it as a 'cache pot' (a vessel to house your nursery pot) - this system also reduces the risk of any leakage mishaps too! If you want to plant your green friend directly into a planter that has drainage holes, then you'll need a drip tray underneath for ease of use.
3. Choose your design & colour.
Once you've locked in your final pot choice (one that will complement your plant, as well as fit the space its destined for), it's time to choose the colour. Play it safe by going with a neutral like black, white or grey for instance, which will ensure your pot and plant remain the focus of the arrangement. Alternatively, choose a bolder colour pot for a striking, eye-catching effect that can create a real focal point.
4. Support local Australian design and manufacturing.
We love to support local designers and makers, plus our own Ivy Muse pots have been made in Melbourne since 2014. With a range of designs, colours and sizes, our pots are manufactured locally by skilled craftspeople using materials like stoneware, ceramic and aluminium and are available in small, limited edition batches.
